Total nuclear reaction cross-section database for radiation protection in space and heavy-ion therapy applications

چکیده
Realistic nuclear reaction cross-section models are an essential ingredient of reliable heavy-ion transport codes. Such codes used for risk evaluation manned space exploration missions as well ion-beam therapy dose calculations and treatment planning. Therefore, in this study, a collection total data has been generated within GSI-ESA-NASA collaboration. The database includes the experimentally measured nucleus–nucleus cross-sections. Tripathi, Kox, Shen, Kox–Shen, Hybrid-Kurotama systematically compared with collected data. Details about implementation given. Literature gaps pointed out considerations made which fit best existing most relevant systems to radiation protection therapy.

The Glauber Model and the Heavy Ion Reaction Cross Section
We reexamine the Glauber model and calculate the total reaction cross section as a function of energy in the low and intermediate energy range, where many of the corrections in the model, are effective. The most significant effect in this energy range is by the modification of the trajectory due to the Coulomb field. The modification in the trajectory due to nuclear field is also taken into acc...

Cross section fluctuations in nuclear scattering are briefly reviewed in order to show the main important features. Then chaotic scattering is introduced by means of a very simple model. It is shown that chaoticity produces the same kind of irregular fluctuations observed in light heavy–ion collisions. The transition from order to chaos allows a new general framework for a deeper understanding ...
متن کاملNuclear stopping and flow in heavy ion collisions and the in-medium NN cross section
We present transport calculations for heavy ion reactions in which the mean field and the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section are consistently based on the same effective interaction, i.e. the in-medium T-matrix from microscopic Dirac-Brueckner calculations. Doing so, the stopping in central reactions in terms of the recently proposed vartl observable and the correlation to the behavior of ...
متن کاملNuclear Transparency and Effective NN Cross Section in Heavy Ion Collisions at 14.6 GeV/nucleon
The probability of a projectile nucleon to traverse a target nucleus without interaction is calculated for central Si-Cu and Si-Pb collisions. Special attention is given to the impact parameter range which contributes to events with large transverse energy. A fit to the data from E814 requires an effective NN cross section of σeff = 54.2 ± 5.0 mb (compared to the free space value σ in = 30 mb )...
